About Western Artist CBStewart
Clayton Stewart (b. 1983), known professionally as CBStewart, is a 5th generation Nevada-born artist whose work focuses primarily on subjects and scenes of the American West.
CBStewart’s passion for the West and the outdoors was instilled early in his childhood. His father instilled in him a love for the outdoors and hunting Nevada’s mountains and vast deserts. His Grandfather and Uncle showed him the ways of fly fishing and fly tying. His Grandfathers, who were horsemen and ranchers, also instilled in him a love for horses and the old western way.
CBStewart received a Bachelors in Art as well as a Master’s in Art Education from University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He currently resides in Henderson, NV with his wife and two children.
Artist Statement
As a fifth-generation Nevadan raised by generations of horsemen and ranchers who helped establish the places I live, work and hunt, the American West is not merely a subject for my work—it is the ground my life is built upon. The open ranges, the rhythm and sounds of the outdoors, and the quiet strength of western wildlife shaped my earliest memories and continue to fuel my creative vision. My paintings are a way of honoring this landscape and the people and animals who define it.
I am drawn to capture the moments that reveal the West’s enduring spirit: the stillness before a storm, the beautiful visual narrative of horse and saddle, the immensely powerful tension of a bison staring directly at you. These scenes carry stories, and through my brushwork I aim to make those stories felt as much as seen. Every piece is an attempt to translate the deep connection I feel to this place into color, form, and atmosphere.
Ultimately, my hope is that viewers recognize something of their own experience in my work—whether it’s a memory of wide-open country, a bond with a working animal, or simply the pull of wild spaces. If my paintings evoke a sense of belonging, nostalgia, or reverence for the West, then I feel I’ve done justice to the land and legacy that inspire me.
